One Billion Journeys
We worked with Haptic Architects on a travelling exhibition for The Science Museum Group: "One Billion Journeys by Wang Fuchun". Wang, a photographer living in Beijing has a lifelong passion for the railways and began taking photographs as a railway employee. Over the course of his work, he has travelled the entire Chinese network, clocking up more than four thousand railway journeys and taking an estimated 200,000 photographs.

We mapped both the entirety of this travel as well as the specific routes relating to each of the 43 photographs on display. This included and headlined the distance, duration and year of each journey. The proportions and positions of graphic panels locked into the exhibition’s architectural grid with hang heights echoing the window line within train carriages. Captions drew from the Science Museum graphic guidelines, the colour palette of Chinese locomotives and set information in both English and Mandarin.
