‘Kunst am Buch’ translates loosely as ‘the art of the book’ and titles a collection of specialist bindings by artists and designers. Over 100 works have been assembled by Hans Burkhardt, drawing on his passion and position within a family of bookbinders at Bubu.

We created a website to provide digital access to this physical treasure trove and precious resource. Our design draws on Hans’ system of assigning uniquely coloured and sized archive boxes to each of the artefacts. We display this spectrum of rectangles as motifs that remain correctly shaped and sized in relation to one another. We set all type in Gerstner Programm and works can be explored via filters of cover, content or artist and by making use of a tool to zoom in on the hi-res imagery.
