Orms are London-based architects. We created a new website for them around five fundamentals in their approach.
Working closely with Emma Keyte, these principles—from Orms’ in-house manual ‘Ultrapractical’—formed a de facto brief, guided our workshopping and translated directly to the structure of the final site: People, Pins, Posts, Practice, Projects. ‘The Garden’ linked to people, ‘A Custodian’s Work’ to a social-media pin map of user interactions, ‘Deep Assignments’ to research posts, ‘Ultrapractical’ to practice and ‘Building Stories’ connected to the project portfolio.

We extended a language of circles from the Orms logotype to bring visual versatility and coherence to these different spaces. Firstly, visitors are greeted by a ‘super o’ upon arrival, a large circular video that acts both as signature and overview. Then further circles lead them through illustration, iconography, map styling, pop-ups and hoverstates, image framing and motion behaviours. The typeface Avantt threads this array of forms and furniture together with its own circular echoes and geometric detailing.
Ultrapracticality comes visually to the fore as a series of moving diagrams and as an interjecting stream of background narratives. This content acts as the horizontal ‘weft’ to the vertical ‘warp’ of the main content—a tartan-like structure for a practice steered by Scottish directors.
